CRC Network of Ethiopia

Welcome to the CRC Network of Ethiopia! Here you will find information about our history, Change Agents and projects, and how we strive to actively strive to strengthen the rights of children!

Background

We are proud to say that we have been part of the International Training Programme from the very beginning in 2003. We have trained 13 teams, with a total of 34 Change Agents! Our Change Agents work from different positions, geographically and proffesionally – such as heads of education offices, manage deans, vice deans of Colleges of Teacher Education, school principals and NGO employees, to name a few.

Main focus

Our change projects have had various focuses, with a strong emphasis on participation, in particular through student councils. All the projects have however aimed to first and foremost increase awareness of the CRC, improve active learning methods, promote a rights-based approach to education, and to create child friendly classrooms.

Accomplishments

Since we have been part of the programme since the very beginning, we are proud to say that we have achieved improvements in a diverse range of matters. First of all, there has been a significant increase in awareness of the CRC principles in our targets schools. Strong commitment by change agents, gaps centered interventions, strong participation of stakeholders, support from the Regional Educational Bureau – all these factors have brought significant changes in terms of Protection, Provision and Participation. Due to this, the work has also led to a decrease in child rights violations, increased student participation and empowerment, also with a specific focus on girls. Lastly, the overall academic performance has improved among the students in the target schools, which later also has been recognized and rewarded by the Regional Bureau of Education of Ethiopia.

Way forward

In spite of this, we still have much work to do. We are determined to place our efforts in mainstreaming and institutionalising the practises and knowledge we now possess. Further training of relevant actors is important in order to strengthen the structures we have implemented. We are striving to increase the advocacy of the CRC and bring its principles to a system level. We aim to scale up and increase our networking – all in order to empower the rights of children.
